People who want to travel around America are spoilt for choice when it comes to methods to do this. Despite the recent increases in gasoline, the car is still the first choice for many. For longer journeys, normally the airlines win with fast and efficient services. However there are many situations where taking the bus makes more sense but then how is one supposed to gauge which to take and when? To know more details keep your eyes on this page.
Traveling by bus in the US.
It is difficult to tell whether this is justified or not, the bus service in the US has a rather tarnished image and many consider the services to be at the base level only. The truth is, if you want to travel around the States on a luxury bus then it is perfectly possible if you choose the right carrier. Of course everyone has heard of Greyhound buses as they are a national service (the only one) and they pretty much dominate the US market. Companies like Trailways and Coach USA are conglomeration of several smaller independent bus operators who share the same marketing functions as well as work under the same brand. Additionally the country also has several other reputed and popular regional operators who may seek the assistance of Greyhound on certain routes.
There is a new addition to the industry with the entry of ‘Chinatown bus’ a word which describes cheap bus services run by companies who operate in a clipped down manner on specific routes and, as the name suggests, charge lesser fare than the usual companies. This type of service began as a means of providing commuting assistance to Chinese immigrants but with time, it has started attracting other groups of customers also. Another new development in the bus industry is the introduction of luxury coaches which is a direct competitor to flights. Generally speaking, these services are used by people that are no further away than six hours say but can experience 1st class facilities on board the bus.
So how can you make up your mind when you need to travel by bus? To get an answer to this question, try answering the questions which appear below: If, when you travel, you do so on a budget then using a bus will beat all other forms of transportation. This is without doubt the least costly way to see and travel across the States and if you are fortunate enough to need a bus in the North East of the country you will find even more so as there are more carriers competing.
Would you be in need of a car, when you reach the destination? There is no need to lumber yourself with a car if it is not necessary and many US cities have, in recent years, become less accommodating to car users which can be a real problem.
What most people don’t realise is just how much time is wasted at airports ‘waiting’ and of course there are the increased security checks so for journeys of under 6 hours, the bus is the best bet. Buses also have a number of steps and generally speaking there is more likelihood of stopping at a convenient location in the city than there is if you fly.
Remember, not all areas of the States have an airport local to them so often a bus may be your only option. How much time do you have? If your trip is not rushed, you might enjoy the more leisurely pace of bus travel. You always have to consider traffic delays and if you have a longer trip to make and are in a hurry then the bus will not be the fastest way to get there. Overall, the bus is a great option for visitors to the US who are looking for transportation between major US cities and more remote destinations alike. As gas prices rise and train services see more cuts, it will undoubtedly be an even more popular way to get around.
